1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding
2 Section 12-612.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
6 adding Section 12-612 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 5/12-612 new)
8 Sec. 12-612. Hidden or false compartment in a motor
9 vehicle.
10 (a) It is unlawful for any person to knowingly own or
11 operate any motor vehicle containing a hidden or false
12 compartment created for the purpose of concealment of the
13 compartment from a law enforcement officer. Any motor
14 vehicle containing a false or hidden compartment, as well as
15 any items within that compartment, shall be subject to
16 seizure by the Department of State Police or by any
17 municipal or other local authority within whose jurisdiction
18 that property is found, and, upon conviction, the court may
19 order that property to be confiscated and become the property
20 of the law enforcement agency that seized the property.
21 (b) A violation of this Section is a Class B
22 misdemeanor.
