1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1782
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 1782, AS AMENDED,
3 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
4 following:
5 "Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is
6 amended by adding Section 10-7 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 1305/10-7 new)
8 Sec. 10-7. Postpartum depression.
9 (a) The Department shall develop and distribute a
10 brochure or other information about the signs, symptoms,
11 screening or detection techniques, and care for postpartum
12 depression, including but not limited to methods for patients
13 and family members to better understand the nature and causes
14 of postpartum depression in order to lower the likelihood
15 that new mothers will continue to suffer from this illness.
16 This brochure shall be developed in conjunction with the
17 Illinois State Medical Society, the Illinois Society for
18 Advanced Practice Nursing, and any other appropriate
19 statewide organization of licensed professionals.
20 (b) The brochure required under subsection (a) of this
21 Section shall be distributed, at a minimum, to physicians
22 licensed to practice medicine in all its branches, certified

1 nurse midwives, and other health care professionals who
2 provide care to pregnant women in the hospital, office, or
3 clinic.
4 (c) The Secretary may contract with a statewide
5 organization of physicians licensed to practice medicine in
6 all its branches for the purposes of this Section.".
