92_SB1782eng SB1782 Engrossed LRB9215385ACsb 1 AN ACT concerning postpartum depression. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is 5 amended by adding Section 10-7 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 1305/10-7 new) 7 Sec. 10-7. Postpartum depression. 8 (a) The Department shall develop and distribute a 9 brochure or other information about the signs, symptoms, 10 screening or detection techniques, and care for postpartum 11 depression, including but not limited to methods for patients 12 and family members to better understand the nature and causes 13 of postpartum depression in order to lower the likelihood 14 that new mothers will continue to suffer from this illness. 15 This brochure shall be developed in conjunction with the 16 Illinois State Medical Society, the Illinois Society for 17 Advanced Practice Nursing, and any other appropriate 18 statewide organization of licensed professionals. 19 (b) The brochure required under subsection (a) of this 20 Section shall be distributed, at a minimum, to physicians 21 licensed to practice medicine in all its branches, certified 22 nurse midwives, and other health care professionals who 23 provide care to pregnant women in the hospital, office, or 24 clinic. 25 (c) The Secretary may contract with a statewide 26 organization of physicians licensed to practice medicine in 27 all its branches for the purposes of this Section.
