1 AN ACT concerning compensation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 General Assembly Furlough Act.
6 Section 5. Intent. It is the intent of the General
7 Assembly that the negative impact of State budget shortfalls
8 be partially absorbed by those persons in State government
9 who are in leadership positions in order to balance the cuts
10 of the pay of other State employees imposed by the Governor.
11 Section 10. Salary reduction. Notwithstanding any other
12 provision of law to the contrary, each member of the General
13 Assembly is subject to a one-time, temporary salary reduction
14 for State fiscal year 2002 only. The one-time, temporary
15 salary reduction shall be equal to 1 working-day's salary for
16 each member. The reduction shall be reflected in the paycheck
17 received for the first pay period in June, 2002.
18 The salary reduction shall not adversely impact the
19 person's pension, insurance, or other employee benefits. The
20 State shall make State contributions to Social Security,
21 State contributions to the pension system, and employee
22 contributions to the pension system based on the person's
23 unreduced salary.
24 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
25 becoming law.
