Short description: DEATH PENALTY COMMISSION Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Creates an independent commission on the death penalty to study all aspects on the death penalty as currently administered in Illinois and to report to the Governor, members of the House, and the Illinois Supreme Court by June 30, 1999. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes substance of Resolution. Creates a Task Force on the death penalty consisting of 12 members, 4 appointed by the Speaker, 4 by the House Minority Leader, 2 appointed by the State Appellate Defender or his designee, one appointed by the Director of the Office of the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor, and one appointed by the Attorney General or his designee. Provides that the Task Force shall study all aspects of the death penalty as currently adminis- tered in Illinois. Provides that the Task Force shall report its findings to the Governor, the House, and the Illinois Supreme Court not later than 6 months after the adoption of this Resolution.
