Amend Senate Bill 149 on page 1, 3 lines 2 and 6, by replacing "Section 15.6" each time it 4 appears with "Sections 6 and 15.6"; and 5 on page 1, by inserting below line 6 the following: 6 "(50 ILCS 750/6) (from Ch. 134, par. 36) 7 Sec. 6. Capabilities of system; pay telephones. All 8 systems shall be designed to meet the specific requirements 9 of each community and public agency served by the system. 10 Every system, whether basic or sophisticated, shall be 11 designed to have the capability of utilizing at least 1 of 12 the methods specified in Sections 2.03 through 2.06, in 13 response to emergency calls. The General Assembly finds and 14 declares that the most critical aspect of the design of any 15 system is the procedure established for handling a telephone 16 request for emergency services. 17 In addition, to maximize efficiency and utilization of 18 the system, all pay telephones within each system shall, 19 within 3 years after the implementation date or by December 20 31, 1985, whichever is later, enable a caller to dial "9-1-1" 21 for emergency services without the necessity of inserting a 22 coin. This paragraph does not apply to pay telephones -2- LRB9102274MWpcam 1 located in penal institutions, as defined in Section 2-14 of 2 the Criminal Code of 1961, that have been designated for the 3 exclusive use of committed persons. 4 (Source: P.A. 85-978.)".
