1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by adding Section
2 27-23.6.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
6 27-23.6 as follows:
7 (105 ILCS 5/27-23.6 new)
8 Sec. 27-23.6. Instruction on clinical depression and
9 suicide prevention. Every public high school shall include
10 in its curriculum a unit of instruction concerning clinical
11 depression and suicide prevention. The State Superintendent
12 of Education may prepare and make available to the school
13 boards of unit school districts and high school districts
14 instruction materials that may be used as guidelines for
15 development of a unit of instruction under this Section,
16 provided that each school board shall itself determine the
17 minimum amount of instruction time that qualifies as a unit
18 of instruction satisfying the requirements of this Section.
