91_HB1811eng HB1811 Engrossed LRB9105134NTsb 1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by changing Sections 2 13A-5 and 13A-6. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 6 Sections 13A-5 and 13A-6 as follows: 7 (105 ILCS 5/13A-5) 8 Sec. 13A-5. Alternative school program curriculum. 9 (a) The regional superintendent shall implement, or 10 contract with one or more school districts to implement, a 11 multi-disciplinary curriculum, which may include work-based 12 learning and community service work approved by the regional 13 superintendent of schools in consultation with the State 14 Board of Education for which academic credit is earned, for 15 the alternative school program designed to address the 16 individualized needs of the students of that program, with 17 special emphasis toward making the educational experience of 18 each student meaningful and worthwhile. In the design and 19 implementation of that curriculum, the regional 20 superintendent or school district shall give due 21 consideration to the rules and regulations adopted by the 22 State Board of Education for alternative schools and optional 23 education programs. The regional superintendent or school 24 district (i) may contract with third parties for any services 25 otherwise performed by employees and (ii) may apply for 26 waivers or modifications of mandates of this Code or of 27 administrative rules as provided in Section 2-3.25g of this 28 Code and as are necessary for the alternative school program. 29 30 (b) An administratively transferred student who 31 successfully completes the requirements for his or her high HB1811 Engrossed -2- LRB9105134NTsb 1 school graduation shall receive a diploma identifying the 2 student as graduating from the transferring high school. In 3 the event the student is administratively transferred before 4 enrolling in a high school, then that student shall receive a 5 diploma from the high school the student would have attended 6 if the student had not attended an alternative school 7 program. 8 (Source: P.A. 89-383, eff. 8-18-95; 89-629, eff. 8-9-96; 9 90-283, eff. 7-31-97.) 10 (105 ILCS 5/13A-6) 11 Sec. 13A-6. Administration; contracts; waiversStaffing. 12 (a) The regional superintendent shall administer, or 13 contract with one or more school districts to administer, 14 alternative school programs located within the educational 15 service region. The regional superintendent or school 16 district (i) may contract with third parties for any services 17 otherwise performed by employees and (ii) may apply for 18 waivers or modifications of mandates of this Code or of 19 administrative rules as provided in Section 2-3.25g of this 20 Code and as are necessary for the alternative school program. 21 22 (b) The regional superintendent is responsible for the 23 administrative and fiscal structure for the program. 24 (Source: P.A. 89-383, eff. 8-18-95; 89-629, eff. 8-9-96.) 25 Section 99.
