House Sponsors: WINTERS. Short description: DIVORCE-CHILD COLLEGE EXPENSES Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act. With respect to provisions authorizing a court to make an award for a child's post-secondary education expenses, provides that unless the parties agree to a higher amount, the court may not award an amount greater than the total cost of tuition and fees and room and board at the Champaign-Urbana campus of the University of Illinois for a comparable period of time and a comparable course of instruction. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Replaces the bill's amendatory provisions. Provides that the total cost of tuition and fees and room and board at the Champaign- Urbana campus of the University of Illinois for a comparable period of time and a comparable course of instruction is a factor to be considered by the court in making an award for the support of a child who has attained majority (instead of providing that a court may not award an amount for education expenses that is greater than that total cost).
