SCH CD-POTENTIALLY VIOLENT STU

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
Amends the School Code. Requires a school board to adopt a
policy concerning students whose behavior or school work demonstrates
a potential for violence or threat to the safety of others. Requires
the goal of the policy to be the early identification of potentially
violent or dangerous students so that appropriate intervention may
take place to minimize the risk of violence and to ensure the safety
of others at school and in the community at large. Includes other
requirements that the policy must meet.
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.
          Deletes reference to:
          105 ILCS 5/10-20.31a new
          105 ILCS 5/34-18.18a new
          Adds reference to:
          105 ILCS 5/10-20.14 from Ch. 122, par. 10-20.14
Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Requires a school
board, in consultation with its parent-teacher advisory committee, to
include provisions in the student discipline policy to address patent
   and latent aggressive student behavior.
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 5.
Changes the amendatory language to provide instead that a school
board, in consultation with its parent-teacher advisory committee and
other community-based organizations, must include provisions in the
student discipline policy to address students who have demonstrated
behaviors that put them at risk for aggressive behavior. Requires the
provisions to include procedures for notifying parents or legal
guardians and early intervention procedures based upon available
   community-based and district resources.
