92_SR0443 LRB9217003BHbh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael 4 DiCarlo of Mundelein, who passed away February 28, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. DiCarlo was born in Santa Ninfa, Sicily, and 6 received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the 7 University of Naples in Italy; and 8 WHEREAS, After immigrating to Chicago in 1947, Mr. 9 DiCarlo worked as a manager at Grand & Western Canteen, a 10 Chicago restaurant and liquor store, and in the late 1960s, 11 Mr. DiCarlo purchased the store, changing its name to 12 Foremost Liquors; and 13 WHEREAS, In 1971, Mr. DiCarlo opened a second store in 14 Willowbrook and a third in Mundelein; knowledgeable about 15 wines, he focused his efforts on bringing a wider selection 16 to his customers; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. DiCarlo retired in the early 1990s, and his 18 son, Carlo, took over the family business; in 1992, the 19 family changed the stores' names to DiCarlo's Armanetti Wine 20 & Spirits; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. DiCarlo took ground-breaking steps and made 22 significant contributions to the retail beverage trade 23 throughout his life; he was the first to utilize radio 24 advertising, the first to utilize television advertising, the 25 first to actively serve Illinois' growing Hispanic market 26 with unique ethnic products and Spanish-speaking personnel, 27 and the first to install scan technology in wine and spirit 28 stores in Chicagoland; and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. DiCarlo was an outstanding and loving father 30 and husband and will be deeply missed by all those who knew 31 him and loved him, especially his wife, Caroline; his son, -2- LRB9217003BHbh 1 Carlo; his two daughters, Michelle and Josette; his two 2 brothers, Joseph and Nino; his sister, Grazia Grimaldi; his 3 six grandchildren; and his great-grandchild; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 6 his family and friends, the passing of Michael DiCarlo of 7 Mundelein; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Michael DiCarlo with our sincere 10 condolences.
