92_SR0413 LRB9216742BHbhA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Matthias F. Laurich of Aurora, who 4 passed away April 8, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Laurich was born May 27, 1938, in Joliet and 6 was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School; he graduated 7 from St. Louis Benedict College in Atchison, Kansas in 1959, 8 and earned a Masters degree from Northern Illinois University 9 in 1967; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Laurich married Mary Beth Oswald on November 11 28, 1959, in Boonville, Missouri; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Laurich taught at his Alma Mater, Joliet 13 Catholic High School, until 1967; he then became head coach 14 for several high school football teams including Marmion 15 Military Academy from 1967 through 1971, Fenwick High School 16 in Oak Park from 1971 through 1975; Mr. Laurich was the first 17 head football coach and head of the math department at 18 Waubonsie Valley High School from 1975 until his death; and 19 WHEREAS, In addition to coaching football, Mr. Laurich 20 was a very well respected basketball official, having worked 21 thousands of high school and college games; throughout the 22 years, he was proud to have officiated over 200 IHSA Class A 23 and Class AA playoff games, including the Class AA finals; 24 for many years he was also an official for area baseball and 25 softball games; and 26 WHEREAS, During the summer, for 26 years, Mr. Laurich 27 enjoyed coaching the swim team at the Glen Oak Country Club, 28 where he also managed the pool; and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Laurich will be deeply missed by all those 30 who knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Mary Beth 31 Laurich, his six children, Matt (Sue) Laurich, Michele (Tom) -2- LRB9216742BHbhA 1 Richardson, Mark (Christina) Laurich, Mike (Colleen) Laurich, 2 Marty (Julie) Laurich, and Misty Laurich (her fiancee, 3 Michael O'Connell); his 12 grandchildren, Stephen, Christina, 4 and Nicole Richardson; Matt, Joseph, and Emily Laurich; Luke, 5 Joshua, and Noah Laurich; Samantha and T.J. Laurich; and Ben 6 Laurich; therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 9 his family and friends, the passing of Matthias F. Laurich of 10 Aurora; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to the family of Matthias F. Laurich with our most 13 sincere condolences.
