92_SR0370 LRB9216494RHrhA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Caroline "Ma" Jacobs, who passed away on March 24, 2002; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Caroline Jacobs was born on September 14, 1911, 7 in Aledo, the daughter of Joseph and Cora Edna Keck Harroun; 8 she married the late Oral G. "Jake" Jacobs on June 1, 1929, 9 who served 10 years as a state representative before his 10 death in 1995; Mrs. Jacobs was the mother of State Senator 11 "Denny" Jacobs and County Board member Donald Jacobs; her 12 family has often been called Rock Island County's version of 13 the Kennedys, with Mrs. Jacobs being compared to Rose 14 Kennedy; and 15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kennedy worked tirelessly for her husband 16 during his political career, and equally hard for her sons 17 and the rest of the family; and 18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs owned and operated Jake's Lunch in 19 East Moline for 31 years; it was the first restaurant in East 20 Moline to serve African American customers, and was a 21 favorite of union workers; during times of economic stress, 22 the generous Mrs. Jacobs would feed those who had lost their 23 jobs; and 24 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs dearly enjoyed spending time with 25 her family, who include her children, Gloria and Robert 26 Goebel, Donald and Wanda Jacobs, and State Senator Dennis 27 "Denny" and Mary Ellen Jacobs; her 16 grandchildren; her 44 28 great-grandchildren; and her 6 great-great-grandchildren; 29 therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 31 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with -2- LRB9216494RHrhA 1 all who knew her, the death of Caroline Jacobs of East 2 Moline; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to the family of Caroline Jacobs with our sincere 5 condolences.
