92_SR0346 LRB9216325LDtm 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has entered a 3 new place of violence against Israeli civilians followed by 4 retaliation against Palestinian Authority police and 5 sacramental facilities, with no immediate prospect for peace; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, A recent suicide bombing attack was carried out 8 against the civilian residents of the community of Karnei 9 Shomron on February 16, 2002; and 10 WHEREAS, Two teenagers were killed in the Karnei Shomron 11 attack, one of whom was a 14-year old whose parents are U.S. 12 citizens; and 13 WHEREAS, Hillel Trattner, a Chicagoan who was recently 14 married, was gravely wounded in the attack, and his wife was 15 also injured; and 16 WHEREAS, Steve Braun, a Chicagoan, was also wounded in 17 the attack; and 18 WHEREAS, The United States of America is committed to the 19 safety and security of its citizens everywhere; and 20 WHEREAS, The United States of America has made it a 21 national priority to put an end to the scourge of such 22 barbaric terror attacks; therefore be it 23 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 24 ASSEMBLY, that the members of the Illinois State Senate wish 25 a speedy recovery to the above-mentioned citizens as well as 26 the others wounded in the recent barbaric attack; and be it 27 further 28 RESOLVED, That we express our collective outrage at the 29 encouragement, support, and praise given to such terrorists 30 and terror attacks; and be it further -2- LRB9216325LDtm 1 RESOLVED, That we call upon Palestinian Authority 2 Chairman, Yassar Arafat, to put an end to all such 3 encouragement, support, and praise for these terror attacks, 4 which emanate from areas under his direct jurisdiction; and 5 be it further 6 RESOLVED, That the members of the Illinois State Senate 7 support the policy of the United States government in 8 resisting terrorism throughout the world, and in seeking 9 peace for Israel and its neighboring nations seeking a 10 permanent peace accord; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 delivered to the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, 13 the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and each 14 member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
