92_SR0311 LRB9215849RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Lula Jean Patton, who passed away on January 30, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Lula Jean Patton was born on March 8, 1939 in 6 Tennessee; and 7 WHEREAS, Lula Jean Patton received her formal education 8 in Tennessee; she married Paul Vestel, Sr. and two children 9 were born of this union, Marita and Paul; the family moved to 10 Chicago in 1957; she later married Charlie Patton who 11 preceded her in death; and 12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Patton accepted Christ at an early age and 13 was ordained a Minister of the Gospel in 1985; she was an 14 active member of St. Peter's Church of God in Christ under 15 the leadership of Elder Seal Livingston, where she served on 16 the Mothers Board and was President of The Evangelist Board; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Patton was a health care professional and 19 worked at several hospitals and nursing homes in the 20 Chicagoland area; and 21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Patton was dedicated to her church and 22 community and received numerous honors and awards; she was 23 Vice President of Eden Green Cooperative, President of the 24 Local School Council at W.E.B. DuBois Elementary School, 25 former Beat Facilitator for the 5th District, an instructor 26 for the Department of Children and Family Services, and a 27 foster parent for 19 years; and 28 WHEREAS, The death of Lula Jean Patton will be deeply 29 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her daughters, 30 Marita McDaniel (Walter), Crystal, Denise, Selina, Sabrina, 31 Tracy, and Laquisha; her sons, Paul, Dwayne, Craig, and -2- LRB9215849RHrh 1 Billy; her grandchildren, Shauntina, Darlesia, Jamie, Erica, 2 Lornett, Shaquille, Rosemary, Sharonda, and Paul; her 3 great-grandchildren, Jason, Sean, Devin, Devon, and Davion; 4 her cousin, William Sparkman, and a host of family and 5 friends; and 6 WHEREAS, Lula Jean Patton was a woman of class, virtue, 7 and love; she will be missed by all who had the honor and 8 pleasure of meeting her; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 11 all who knew her, the death of Lula Jean Patton of Chicago, 12 Illinois; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Lula Jean Patton with our sincere 15 condolences.
