92_SR0309 LRB9215666RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Ruth E. Flaherty, who passed away on January 21, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Ruth E. (Glenn) Flaherty was born on March 24, 6 1918, in Elgin, Illinois to John M. and Eva J. Glenn; she was 7 preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William J. 8 Flaherty, Sr. in 2000; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Flaherty was a member of Our Lady of Good 10 Counsel Church; she graduated from Holy Angels Grade School 11 in 1932, and from Madonna High School in 1936; she later 12 graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 13 1940; and 14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Flaherty retired from Mercy Center Hospital 15 in 1984, where she worked for 15 years as a medical 16 technologist; and 17 WHEREAS, Ruth Flaherty devoted her life to family and 18 faith; she lovingly raised eight children, encouraging 19 virtue, compassion, kindness, and respect and faced life's 20 challenges with strength, grace, and dignity; and 21 WHEREAS, The death of Ruth E. Flaherty will be deeply 22 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her brother, 23 John (Eileen) Glenn; her brother-in-law, Gregory Molitor; her 24 sister-in-law, Marjorie Glenn; her seven children, Joan 25 Elizabeth (Dr. Antonio Riera) Flaherty, William J. Flaherty, 26 Jr., Mark (Colleen) Flaherty, Patrick (Judy) Flaherty, Judith 27 Anne Flaherty, Ruth Marie Flaherty, and James D. (Linda) 28 Flaherty; her grandchildren, Enrique (Arianna) Arana, Beatriz 29 Arana, Michael and Anne Flaherty, Benjamin Flaherty, Mark, 30 Katherine, and Daniel Flaherty, Matthew, Brian, Nicholas, 31 Graham, and Sarah Ludmer, Amy (Akwetee Butler) Flaherty, -2- LRB9215666RHrh 1 Andrew Flaherty, and Brittany, Carly, and Timothy Flaherty; 2 her great-granddaughters, Sophia Marie Arana Cabrera and 3 Amirah Butler; and her lifelong friends, Mildred Mueller, 4 Virginia Heinz, and Rosemary Collier; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 7 all who knew her, the death of Ruth E. Flaherty of Batavia, 8 Illinois; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the family of Ruth E. Flaherty with our sincere 11 condolences.
