92_SR0303 LRB9215458BHpc 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Robert L. Burhans, who passed away on January 16, 2002; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Robert Burhans was born on September 19, 1916 in 7 Peoria, Illinois to Dr. L. A. and Eda Lucas Burhans; he 8 married Anne Woodward on June 2, 1968; and 9 WHEREAS, Robert Burhans was a Navy veteran of World War 10 II with a rank of Lieutenant junior grade, serving from 1933 11 to 1946; and 12 WHEREAS, Robert Burhans earned a bachelor's degree and a 13 law degree from the University of Michigan and was admitted 14 to the Illinois State Bar in 1939; he was a sole practitioner 15 of law from 1952 until he retired in 1998; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Burhans, a Republican, served in the 17 Illinois House of Representatives from 1948 to 1966; he was 18 always active in Peoria, where he was president of the Peoria 19 Bar Association from 1985 to 1986, served as a member of the 20 Illinois Valley Library System for 1976 to 1979, and was a 21 long-time member of the Peoria Library Board; he also served 22 on the Greater Peoria Sanitary District; and 23 WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Burhans will be deeply 24 felt by all who knew him and loved him, especially his wife, 25 Anne; his daughters, Barbara (Harold) Stoller and Patricia 26 Pedigo, and his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; 27 therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 30 all who knew him, the death of Robert Burhans of Peoria 31 Heights, Illinois; and be it further -2- LRB9215458BHpc 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Robert Burhans with our sincere 3 condolences.
