92_SR0256 LRB9210992RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Scotia Etta Thomas Calhoun, who passed away on October 15, 5 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Scotia Etta Thomas Calhoun was born in Meridian, 7 Mississippi; she was the wife of the late George R. Calhoun; 8 together they were the successful entrepreneurs of Scotia's 9 Fine Food Shops and Scotia's School of Beauty Culture; and 10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Calhoun was a devoted member of Mt. Zion 11 Missionary Baptist Church; she was a member of TLOD, Sigma 12 Gamma Rho, N.C.N.W., and a lifetime member of the NAACP; in 13 addition, she received numerous awards and accolades for 14 distinguished service throughout the United States; and 15 WHEREAS, The passing of Scotia Etta Thomas Calhoun will 16 be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her 17 children, Argie H. Thomas, Don F. Thomas, and Michelle E. 18 Young; her sisters-in-law, Carrie M. (husband, Henry) Thomas 19 and Opal D. (husband, Cecil) Harvey; her uncle, the Reverend 20 Ephraim Thomas; her nieces, Doris J. Thomas, Shirley 21 (husband, Joseph) Henderson, and Venida E. Thomas; her 22 nephews, Melvin G. (wife, Pauline) Thomas, Maurice K. Thomas, 23 and Raymond A. (wife, Sandra) Thomas; and a host of other 24 relatives and a multitude of friends; therefore, be it 25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 27 all who knew her, the death or Scotia Etta Thomas Calhoun of 28 East St. Louis, Illinois; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to the family of Scotia Etta Thomas Calhoun with 31 our sincere condolences.
