92_SR0199 LRB9209405RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Atha Hurt, who passed away on June 20, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Atha Hurt was born on January 5, 1941 in 6 Memphis, Tennessee to Oscar and Millie Hurt; he attended 7 Public School in Shelby County, Tennessee and was a member of 8 Spring Hill Baptist Church in Memphis; and 9 WHEREAS, Atha Hurt moved to Chicago, Illinois in the 10 early 1960s; he married Hazel Lee Clark on December 24, 1965; 11 they are the parents of six children; and 12 WHEREAS, Atha Hurt was employed at Pettibone Steel Mill, 13 Rival Company, Schwinn Bicycle, and Helene Curtis; and 14 WHEREAS, Atha Hurt, affectionately called, "Big Man" and 15 "Hubb Toe", reached out to many that he knew in more ways 16 than one; and 17 WHEREAS, The passing of Atha Hurt will be deeply felt by 18 all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Hazel; his 19 daughters, Natalie and Pamela; his sons, Ivan (wife, Tonya) 20 and Ephriam (wife, Theresa); his grandchildren, Quaashea, 21 Hazel Nickcole, Jarvis, Erin, Loren, Krystal, and Keundre; 22 his great grandchildren, Diamon and Jada; his sister, Mary; 23 his brothers, Otis "Pete" (wife, Magnolia), Major "Slick", 24 Oscar, and Charles; his aunts, Susie and Chairaty; his uncle, 25 Carey; his sisters-in-law, Rollan, Vernestein, Zelda, and 26 Nancy (husband, Thomas); his niece, Jenia Hurt; and a host of 27 other relatives and friends; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 30 all who knew him, the death of Atha Hurt of Chicago, 31 Illinois; and be it further -2- LRB9209405RHrh 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Atha Hurt with our sincere 3 condolences.
