92_SR0181 LRB9209313RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of David L. Amory, who passed away on June 12, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, David Lowndes Amory grew up in Boston; he 6 graduated from Middlesex School in 1951 and earned his 7 bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1955; and 8 WHEREAS, David L. Amory worked briefly for General Mills, 9 where he liked to tell people that he ran dog biscuit 10 displays and would sample his wares to prove the biscuits 11 were good for pets; soon afterward, he became a stockbroker 12 at Merrill Lynch in Chicago, and by the 1970s, was a manager 13 at Smith-Barney; in the early 1980s, he joined Johnson & 14 Higgins, where he served as a vice president and helped 15 establish life insurance policies for United Airlines 16 employees; and 17 WHEREAS, David L. Amory served as president of the 18 Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse 19 from 1988 to 1994 and transformed the agency from a 20 grass-roots group to one with broad community recognition and 21 organization by developing the group's board of directors and 22 using his contacts in the business world to organize 23 fundraisers that featured professional sports figures and 24 corporate sponsorship; in addition, he directed capital 25 campaigns for the College of Lake County Foundation and for 26 the Western Golf Association's Evans Scholarship Fund; and 27 WHEREAS, David L. Amory was active in Lake County's 28 grass-roots Republican organization for many years and headed 29 the Republican Federation, the fundraising arm for the GOP in 30 Lake County; in addition, he managed the state representative 31 campaign for now Lt. Governor Corrine Wood in the early 32 1990s; and -2- LRB9209313RHrh 1 WHEREAS, The passing of David L. Amory will be deeply 2 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 3 Mary; his sons, Alex and David, Jr.; his daughter, Susan; his 4 brother, John; his sister, Mally Haight; and his five 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 8 all who knew him, the death of David L. Amory of Lake Bluff, 9 Illinois; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of David L. Amory with our sincere 12 condolences.
