92_SR0174 LRB9209114RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Norvel Jefferson, Sr., who passed away on May 20, 2001; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Norvel Jefferson, Sr. was born on December 22, 7 1909 in West Point, Mississippi; he was the sixteenth of 8 twenty-two children born to the union of Tillman and Cherry 9 Jefferson; and 10 WHEREAS, Norvel Jefferson, Sr. met and married the late 11 Nancy Belle and raised eight children; and 12 WHEREAS, Norvel Jefferson, Sr. was employed for twenty 13 years with the International Harvester Company, where he 14 served as a Pipe Fitter; in the late 1960s he started his own 15 business in the field of Plumbing and Carpentry; and 16 WHEREAS, Norvel Jefferson, Sr. was known for his kind 17 heartiness, strong love for his family, in-laws, and the 18 community; he was involved in the Civil Rights Movement; and 19 WHEREAS, Norvel Jefferson, Sr. loved to hunt and had the 20 biggest cook out with his best friend, Charles Wilkins, every 21 January for family and friends; he also loved to share 22 stories with his grandchildren about how he worked in a 23 tobacco field at the age of eight, and stories of life in the 24 delta of Mississippi; and 25 WHEREAS, The passing of Norvel Jefferson, Sr., lovingly 26 known as "PaPa", will be deeply felt by all who knew and 27 loved him, especially his nine children, Linda Frazier, Lynda 28 (husband, Roger) Pinson, Paul Jefferson, Edwin Jefferson, 29 Erwin (wife, Veronica) Jefferson, Felix Freeman, Norvel 30 Jefferson, Jr., Alice Wilson, and E. Marie (husband, Reggie) 31 Ferguson; his sisters, Betty Johnson and Pearlee Coulter; his -2- LRB9209114RHrh 1 sixteen grandchildren, his four great-grandchildren; his 2 brothers-in-law; his sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, 3 nieces, nephews, and loving friends; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 6 all who knew him, the death of Norvel Jefferson, Sr. of 7 Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Norvel Jefferson, Sr. with our 10 sincere condolences.
