92_SR0125 LRB9208789RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Hazel M. Keith, who passed away on April 21, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Hazel M. Keith was born on May 6, 1913 to Romeo 6 and Estella Nave in Corinth, Mississippi; she married Kenneth 7 L. Keith in Chicago, Illinois; and 8 WHEREAS, Hazel M. Keith attended Lucy Flower and Hyde 9 Park High School; she later attended Edgewood Junior College 10 and Hyde Park Junior College at the age of sixteen; she 11 became one of the youngest ever to pass the Real Estate 12 Brokers Exam through her education at the YMCA College and 13 Northwestern University; while in Washington, D.C., she 14 attended the Department of Agriculture School and Howard 15 University; and 16 WHEREAS, Hazel M. Keith worked as a Navy Auditor in 17 Washington, D.C. and received clearance from the Federal 18 Bureau of Investigation; she then passed an accounting test 19 at the Office of Price Administration, and afterwards began 20 her service with the office; and 21 WHEREAS, In addition, Hazel M. Keith became head of the 22 girls at Wake Hall, where she authored two plays entitled, 23 "Miss Liberty Revue", which was performed at Wake Hall, the 24 YMCA, and Walter Reed Hospital, and had several compliments, 25 most notably by Ms. Eleanor Roosevelt, and "Miss Peppermint"; 26 and 27 WHEREAS, Upon returning to Chicago, Hazel Keith returned 28 to working in Real Estate and took up additional duties as an 29 income tax consultant; and 30 WHEREAS, Hazel M. Keith was a native of the Morgan Park 31 community, where she dedicated her time and talents to -2- LRB9208789RHrh 1 various organizations; and 2 WHEREAS, Hazel M. Keith was active in the political arena 3 and corresponded with such notables as Janet Reno, former 4 President William Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Alexis M. Herman, 5 Willie Brown, Jr., Archbishop Agostino Cacciavillas, Diann 6 Feinstein, Edward M. Kennedy, Monsignor P. Sardi, and former 7 Vice President Al Gore, and Tipper Gore; and 8 WHEREAS, Since 1988, Hazel Keith lived in Concordia Manor 9 in Napa, California where she served as President of the 10 Concordia Resident Board and as a mentor to many; and 11 WHEREAS, The passing of Hazel M. Keith will be deeply 12 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her sons, 13 Kenneth L. Keith Jr. (wife, Jacqueline), and Stanley Keith 14 (wife, Kim-Lum); her sisters, Wilma S. (husband, William Sr.) 15 Crawford and Dorothy (husband, Herman Sr.) Baker; her 16 brother-in-law, Donald Jackson; her seven grandchildren; her 17 sixteen great grandchildren; her three great-great 18 grandchildren; her nieces; her nephews; and her many 19 relatives and friends; therefore, be it 20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 22 all who knew her, the death of Hazel M. Keith of Napa, 23 California; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 25 presented to the family of Hazel M. Keith with our sincere 26 condolences.
