92_SR0121 LRB9208720RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of William M. Broom, who passed away on April 12, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, William M. Broom was born on November 19, 1925 6 to William Stanford and Nina Martin Broom; he is a graduate 7 of Kinmundy High School; and 8 WHEREAS, William M. Broom helped his father in the 9 orchard business until leasing an orchard in Kinmundy; in 10 1957, he planted an orchard of his own in Alma, Illinois, 11 which his family still owns; he was employed as a consultant 12 to fruit growers for Niagara Chemical, and later the Illinois 13 Fruit Exchange; in 1968 he purchased the Carlinville Orchard, 14 and in 1983 he named his son, Jeff, as a partner; Mr. Broom 15 remained a consultant after selling the orchard to his son 16 and wife in 1995; and 17 WHEREAS, William M. Broom was a member of Pleasant Hill 18 Christian Church in Raymond, Illinois; he is a past member of 19 the Carlinville Lions Club, Elks Lodge 1412, the Carlinville 20 School Board, and the Country Club Board; he served as an 21 elder of the Memorial Christian Church and as past president 22 of the Illinois Horticulture Society; he also proudly served 23 during World War II in the United States Navy; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of William M. Broom will be deeply 25 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 26 Joan, his son, Jeffrey (wife, Lisa) Broom; his daughters, 27 Cynthia (husband, Bill) Raines and Stephanie (husband, Tim) 28 Nelson; his eight grandchildren; his sisters, Lavange 29 Goodman, Louise Chew, Mary Turek, Batty Hawkins, and Sara 30 Donoho; his brother Russell Broom; and his several nieces and 31 nephews; therefore, be it -2- LRB9208720RHrh 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 3 all who knew him, the death of William M. Broom of 4 Carlinville, Illinois; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of William M. Broom with our sincere 7 condolences.
