92_SR0119 LRB9208780RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Cynthia Chow, who passed away on April 19, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Cynthia Chow came to the United States from 6 Shanghai in 1956 to attend the University of Illinois in 7 Urbana-Champaign, where in 1960 she received a bachelor's 8 degree in nutrition; she worked as a dietary intern at 9 Massachusetts General Hospital before returning to the 10 Chicago area to head up the dietary departments at two North 11 Side hospitals; and 12 WHEREAS, While studying for her master's degree at Loyola 13 University in Chicago, Mrs. Chow started her own dietary and 14 food service management consulting firm, Cynthia Chow and 15 Associates; she build her consulting firm into one of the 16 largest in the United States; and 17 WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Chow owned nursing homes with 18 other family members through the establishment of the 19 Lancaster Health Group, which operates seven nursing homes in 20 the Chicago area as well as home health and hospice care; and 21 she founded Oriental Express Inc., a group of Chinese 22 self-service restaurants; she also invested in several 23 Szechwan restaurants; and 24 WHEREAS, Cynthia Chow served as the past president of the 25 American Dietetic Association, and as a member on the 26 Illinois Council on Long Term Care and on the advisory 27 council to the division of biological sciences at the 28 University of Chicago; and 29 WHEREAS, The passing of Cynthia Chow will be deeply felt 30 by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Joseph 31 Chow; her daughters, Jennifer and Julie; her brothers, -2- LRB9208780RHrh 1 Laurence Zung and Ronald Zung; and her sister, Celia Moh; 2 therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 5 all who knew her, the death of Cynthia Chow of Chicago, 6 Illinois; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Cynthia Chow with our sincere 9 condolences.
