92_SR0104 LRB9208628RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Jeanne Flynn, who passed away on March 31, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was born in Chicago, Illinois on 6 May 24, 1944 to Earl Douglas and Jean Flynn; and 7 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a graduate of Saint Mary's of 8 Notre Dame Preparatory School, Rosary College, and received 9 her her Master's Degree from Sangamon State University, now 10 known as the University of Illinois at Springfield; and 11 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn enjoyed a life career in Democratic 12 politics; over the years she served in many positions for the 13 State of Illinois that included working for Michael Bakalis 14 in the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction; as 15 Director of Legislative Affairs for Secretary of State Alan 16 J. Dixon; as administrator and advocate of programs for 17 senior citizens, including the creation of the Silver Pages 18 in the phone book, under Jim Edgar; and most recently, as a 19 consultant at the Illinois State Library where she developed 20 programs for the disabled and established numerous 21 intergenerational programs between seniors and children, 22 including oral history programs to ensure that the stories of 23 World War II veterans are passed down to future generations; 24 and 25 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a lifelong activist in 26 grassroots Democratic politics; as a youth, she worked with 27 Saul Alinsky, and she served on numerous political campaigns 28 for Paul Douglas, Robert Kennedy, Paul Simon, as well as many 29 local and State candidates; and 30 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a member of numerous 31 organizations, including the Animal Protective League, -2- LRB9208628RHrh 1 Planned Parenthood, the Springfield Center for Independent 2 Living, and the Mini-O'Beirne Crisis Nursery; she was 3 instrumental in the establishment of the Ms. Senior Illinois 4 Pageant, and was a tireless and effective fundraiser for many 5 boards, including the Aids Walk; she was the recipient of the 6 prestigious J.C. Penney Community Service Award and received 7 many other honors during her career; and 8 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a lifelong fan of the 9 University of Notre Dame and a lover of all dogs; and 10 WHEREAS, The passing of Jeanne Flynn will be deeply felt 11 by all who knew and loved her, especially her sister-in-law, 12 Mary Ann Flynn; her nephew, Michael; her niece, Vicky; her 13 grandniece, Lacie; her grandnephews, Joey and Robby; and an 14 enormous family of friends and colleagues; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 17 all who knew her, the death of Jeanne Flynn of Springfield, 18 Illinois; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to the family of Jeanne Flynn with our sincere 21 condolences.
