92_SR0085 LRB9208514RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Hazel Dooley Watson, who passed away on March 18, 2001; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Hazel Dooley Watson was born on May 20, 1906, in 7 Metcalf County, Kentucky to Frank and Ferbie Walker Dooley; 8 she married the late Dallas V. Watson on June 11, 1924; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson held many careers during her 10 lifetime which included selling insurance for State Farm, and 11 owning a grocery store and the Chatter Box Restaurant in 12 Charleston, Illinois; she worked for the State of Illinois as 13 Revenue Department Supervisor of Assessments and as the State 14 Lunch Supervisor for Schools; she was a recipient of an 15 honorary degree from Eastern Illinois University as Doctor of 16 Political Science; and 17 WHEREAS, Hazel Watson was an active fixture in Republican 18 activities around the State for decades and was cited by the 19 Republican National Committee as the oldest active Republican 20 in the country; she served as past president of the Illinois 21 Federation of Republican Women and on the National Federation 22 Board, Honorary State Central Committee Woman for the 19th 23 Congressional District; she was a member of the Charleston 24 Women's Club, the Elks Ladies Auxiliary, the Sarah Bush 25 Lincoln Health Center Guild, the Charleston Country Club, and 26 a lifetime member of the Methodist Church; she was also an 27 avid Bridge player; and 28 WHEREAS, The passing of Hazel Dooley Watson will be 29 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her 30 niece, Mary Jane Biggs; her nephew, Stanley Watson; her 31 several cousins; and her many, many friends in the Republican 32 party; therefore, be it -2- LRB9208514RHrh 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 3 all who knew her, the death of Hazel Dooley Watson of 4 Charleston, Illinois; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of Hazel Dooley Watson with our 7 sincere condolences.
