92_SR0067 LRB9208283RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Dr. Mack W. Hollowell, who passed away on February 7, 5 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Hollowell was born on December 20, 1919 in 7 Charleston, Illinois, to Mack and Elsie Hollowell; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Hollowell earned his Bachelor of Medicine 9 degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and his M.D. from 10 the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, 11 Illinois; he served in the Army Medical Corps in the South 12 Pacific during World War II; after being discharged with 13 honor, he returned to Charleston where he practiced medicine 14 for 46 years; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Hollowell was instrumental in raising money 16 for the Charleston Memorial and Sarah Bush Lincoln Health 17 Center Hospitals; he served as the medical director for the 18 Hour House Drug and rehabilitation Center for 28 years until 19 his retirement in December of 2000; and 20 WHEREAS, Dr. Hollowell was as a member of Wesley United 21 Methodist Church, a member of the Illinois Medical Society, 22 where he served on several committees, a member and President 23 of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, a member and 24 President of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Systems 25 Board and Foundation Board in prior years; he was an active 26 member of the Coles Cumberland Medical Society, a member and 27 the first President of the Eastern Illinois University Board 28 of Trustees; and previously served on the Illinois Board of 29 Governors of State College and Universities; and 30 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Mack W. Hollowell will be 31 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his -2- LRB9208283RHrh 1 wife, Margaret; his children, Dr. Susan K. (husband, Dr. 2 Michael) Shirley, Dr. Jeff Hollowell, Melissa (husband, Tom) 3 Katsimpalis, and Megan (husband, Stuart) Summers; his 4 step-children, John C. Barlow, Todd L (wife, Sandra) Barlow, 5 and Mary Anne Barlow Allen; his grandchildren, Jason, Jacob, 6 Alyssa, Kory, Alanz, Evan, Iris, Ellen, Lincoln, David, 7 Grace, and Sam; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 10 all who knew him, the death of Dr. Mack W. Hollowell of 11 Charleston, Illinois; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Dr. Mack W. Hollowell with our 14 sincere condolences.
