92_SR0048 LRB9208259RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Mattie McCou Hoskins, who passed away on February 18, 5 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Mattie McCou Hoskins was born on January 25, 7 1904 in Ackerman, Mississippi to Rubin and Sarah McCou; she 8 was the fourth of eleven children; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoskins received her education and 10 religious experiences in Ackerman, Mississippi, where she was 11 a member at The Big Jerusalem Church of Ackerman; as an 12 adult, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she met and 13 married Walter Hoskins, Sr.; and 14 WHEREAS, In 1940, Mrs. Hoskins moved to Maywood, Illinois 15 and became a member with the Second Baptist Church, where she 16 was known for singing her favorite songs, "Just to Behold His 17 Face" and "Oh Today"; and 18 WHEREAS, Due to her enthusiasm for serving the Lord, Mrs. 19 Hoskins was a member of many organizations which include, a 20 member of the Gospel Chorus since 1940, where she served as 21 President of the Chorus for many years, the founding member 22 of the Nurses' Guild, where she served as President, in 1951 23 she served as Treasurer of the "Busy Bee" Club, and as a 24 beloved sponsor of the Young Peoples Chorus for many years; 25 and 26 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoskins involvement with many of Maywood's 27 young people extended outside of church, as she opened her 28 home constantly for love and guidance; and 29 WHEREAS, The passing of Mattie McCou Hoskins will be 30 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her 31 son, Walter (wife, Mildred) Hoskins, Jr; her daughter, Merle -2- LRB9208259RHrh 1 (husband, Warren) Lowe; her seven grandchildren; her special 2 granddaughter, Vickie (husband, Robert) Clark; her great 3 grandchildren; her God-daughter, Joyce Kimbrough; and her 4 nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; therefore, be 5 it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 8 all who knew her, the death of Mattie McCou Hoskins of 9 Maywood, Illinois; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of Mattie McCou Hoskins with our 12 sincere condolences.
