92_SR0014 LRB9203856KBkbA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to pay 3 their respects to the family and friends of John Knell 4 Solfisburg of Aurora, Illinois, who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, John Solfisburg was born in Aurora, Illinois on 6 March 22, 1918; his parents were Louise Katherine Knell and 7 Christian H. Solfisburg II; and 8 WHEREAS, John Solfisburg worked his entire life at 9 Builder's Supply Company, a fourth generation family 10 business; he was a 1936 graduate of West Aurora High School 11 and Taft Preparatory School; he received his Bachelor of 12 Science degree in mechanical engineering from Brown 13 University in 1941; he received his Master of Science degree 14 in aeronautical engineering from the Daniel Guggenheim School 15 of Aeronautics at New York University, where he also served 16 as an instructor while in the United States Navy; and 17 WHEREAS, John Solfisburg was veteran of World War II; he 18 attained the rank of Lieutenant JG and served on Guadalcanal; 19 he was a member of the New England Congregational Church, the 20 Aurora Country Club, the Elks Club, the Italian American 21 Club, and Moose Lodge #400, in addition to aiding the Greater 22 Aurora Chamber of Commerce in community activities; and 23 WHEREAS, John Solfisburg was a gifted musician and 24 pianist; he enjoyed playing, writing, and recording music; he 25 loved art, and received a national literary award for poetry; 26 and 27 WHEREAS, The passing of John Solfisburg is deeply felt by 28 all who knew and loved him, especially his son, John Knell 29 (wife, Penny) Solfisburg, Jr.; his daughter, Betsy (husband, 30 Timothy) Quinn; his grandchildren, Jonathan (wife, Victoria) 31 Solfisburg, Jeffrey (wife, Beth) Solfisburg, Ryan Kelley -2- LRB9203856KBkbA 1 Quinn, Kellyanne Solfisburg Quinn, and Katey Knell Quinn; his 2 great grandson, Connor Solfisburg; his sister-in-law, Dorothy 3 Kelly; and his close friend and companion, Mary Ann Dykstra; 4 therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 7 of John Solfisburg and extend our sympathy to his family and 8 friends; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the family of John Knell Solfisburg.
