1 AN ACT concerning municipalities.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 adding Section 3.1-40-60 as follows:
6 (65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-60 new)
7 Sec. 3.1-40-60. Advisory referenda. The corporate
8 authorities of a municipality may, by a majority vote,
9 authorize an advisory question of public policy to be placed
10 on the ballot at the next regular election in the
11 municipality. The municipal clerk must certify the question
12 to the proper election officials, who must submit the
13 question in accordance with the general election law.
