92_SB1707enr SB1707 Enrolled LRB9215398NTsb 1 AN ACT relating to education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 5 Section 21-11.3 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/21-11.3) (from Ch. 122, par. 21-11.3) 7 Sec. 21-11.3. Resident teacher certificate. A resident 8 teacher certificate shall be valid for 42years for 9 employment as a resident teacher in a public school. It 10 shall be issued only to persons who have graduated from a 11 regionally accredited institution of higher education with a 12 bachelor's degree, who are enrolled in a program of 13 preparation approved by the State Superintendent of Education 14 in consultation with the State Teacher Certification Board, 15 and who have passed the appropriate tests as required in 16 Section 21-1a and as determined by the State Board of 17 Education. A resident teacher certificate may be issued for 18 teaching children through grade 3 or for grades K-9, 6-12, or 19 K-12 in a special subject area and may not be renewed. A 20 resident teacher may teach onlyin conjunction with andunder 21 the direction of a certified teacher as the resident 22 teacher's mentor and shall not teach in place of a certified 23 teacher. The holder of a resident teacher certificate shall 24 be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for the issuance 25 of a Standard Teaching Certificate if he or she has completed 26 4 years of successful teaching, has passed all appropriate 27 tests, and has earned a master's degree in education. 28 (Source: P.A. 90-548, eff. 1-1-98; 91-102, eff. 7-12-99.) 29 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 30 becoming law.
