92_SB1544 LRB9211259ACcd 1 AN ACT concerning education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Education for Homeless Children Act is 5 amended by changing Section 1-20 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 45/1-20) 7 Sec. 1-20. Enrollment. If the parents or guardians of a 8 homeless child or youth choose to enroll the child in a 9 school other than the school of origin, that school 10immediatelyshall enroll the homeless child or youth by the 11 end of the regular school day following the request to enroll 12 even if the child or youth is unable to produce records 13 normally required for enrollment, such as previous academic 14 records, medical records, proof of residency, or other 15 documentation. Nothing in this subsection shall prohibit 16 school districts from requiring parents or guardians of a 17 homeless child to submit an address or such other contact 18 information as the district may require from parents or 19 guardians of nonhomeless children. It shall be the duty of 20 the enrolling school to immediately contact the school last 21 attended by the child or youth to obtain relevant academic 22 and other records. If the child or youth must obtain 23 immunizations, it shall be the duty of the enrolling school 24 to promptly refer the child or youth for those immunizations. 25 (Source: P.A. 88-634, eff. 1-1-95; 88-686, eff. 1-24-95.) 26 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 27 becoming law.
