92_SB1101 LRB9208159RCcd 1 AN ACT in relation to privacy. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Genetic Information Privacy Act is 5 amended by changing Section 5 as follows: 6 (410 ILCS 513/5) 7 Sec. 5. Legislative findings; intent. The General 8 Assembly finds that: 9 (1) The use of genetic testing can be valuable to 10 an individual. 11 (2) Despite existing laws, regulations, and 12 professional standards thatwhichrequire or promote 13 voluntary and confidential use of genetic testing 14 information, many members of the public are deterred from 15 seeking genetic testing because of fear that test results 16 will be disclosed without consent or be used in a 17 discriminatory manner. 18 (3) The public health will be served by 19 facilitating voluntary and confidential nondiscriminatory 20 use of genetic testing information. 21 (Source: P.A. 90-25, eff. 1-1-98.)
