1 AN ACT in relation to health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5 Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6 amended by adding Section 2310-376 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 2310/2310-376 new)
8 Sec. 2310-376. Hepatitis C education and prevention
9 program. The Department shall develop a program to heighten
10 public awareness and enhance public knowledge and
11 understanding of hepatitis C. In particular, the Department
12 shall do the following:
13 (1) Conduct a seroprevalence study to estimate the
14 current and future impact of hepatitis C on the State.
15 (2) Conduct health education, public awareness, and
16 community outreach activities to promote public awareness
17 and knowledge about the risk factors, the value of early
18 detection, and available screening services in connection
19 with hepatitis C, and the options available for the
20 treatment of hepatitis C.
21 (3) Provide training to public health clinic staff
22 regarding the detection and treatment of hepatitis C, and
23 methods of transmitting hepatitis C.
24 (4) Identify to health care providers and employers
25 the benefits of disease awareness and prevention.
26 (5) Develop a prevention program to reduce the risk
27 of transmission of hepatitis C.
