92_SB0330gms State of Illinois OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Springfield, Illinois 62706 George H. Ryan GOVERNOR July 12, 2001 To the Honorable Members of The Illinois Senate 92nd General Assembly Pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(b) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby veto and return Senate Bill 330 entitled "AN ACT concerning education." Senate Bill 330 amends the School Code by changing the vocational center grant eligibility provision to provide that an area vocational center, as designated by the State Board of Education, may apply for and be eligible to receive any school maintenance grant, federal or State technology grant, or other competitive grant administered by the State Board of Education that is available for school districts, subject to the same restrictions applicable to school districts. I fully support the provisions in Senate Bill 330; however, I have already signed into law House Bill 2143 which contains nearly identical provisions. House Bill 2143 differs from Senate Bill 330 by adding an immediate effective date. As this legislation is important to the vocational centers of Illinois, I think it more appropriate to sign House Bill 2143, which has the immediate effective date. For these reasons, I hereby veto and return Senate Bill 330. Sincerely, George H. Ryan GOVERNOR
