1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to acknowledge the Montessori School of
4 Lake Forest on the occasion of being awarded a Director's
5 Green Youth Award for its outstanding and innovative
6 environmental project; and
7 WHEREAS, The Montessori School of Lake Forest received
8 the award for its Purple Loosestrife Biological Control
9 Program; and
10 WHEREAS, The students bred Loosestrife as food for
11 beetles, which were then released into meadows and wetlands;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, The beetles thrive and reproduce, thus allowing
14 the native plants to survive and the Purple Loosestrife to
15 dwindle, thereby restoring and protecting indigenous plant
16 life on the school property; and
17 WHEREAS, The Purple Loosestrife Biological Control
18 Program is a service to the citizens of Lake Forest,
19 especially in the preservation and improvement of the quality
20 of life in the city; and
21 WHEREAS, The Montessori School of Lake Forest is one of
22 the 11 recognized first annual Green Youth Award recipients
23 for outstanding environmental protection and conservation
24 projects by Illinois young people; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we declare December 17, 2002 to be named Montessori School of
28 Lake Forest Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the Montessori School of Lake Forest.
