1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to honor those who make
4 valuable contributions to and give considerable effort in
5 organizations for the betterment of citizens; and
6 WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Amvets Post 18 is the proud
7 sponsor of the Special Olympics Conquerors Swim Team; moneys
8 donated by Amvets Post 18 are used to supply lifts for the
9 pool, repairs for wheelchairs and other necessities; they
10 purchase swimsuits, shirts, and jackets for athletes on the
11 Conquerors Swim team; and
12 WHEREAS, Members of Amvets Post 18 volunteer their time
13 to aide the swim team; they assist with weekly swim practices
14 and organize holiday parties for the Conquerors; and
15 WHEREAS, Members of the Conquerors Swim Team participated
16 in the Illinois State Summer Games; over 3,500 athletes from
17 around the State competed; the summer games are the largest
18 of more than 175 Special Olympics competitions held
19 throughout the State; and
20 WHEREAS, The Conquerors Swim Team won four gold, six
21 silver, and three bronze Olympic medals at the summer games;
22 they exemplified the mission of Special Olympics by
23 developing physical fitness, demonstrating courage,
24 experiencing joy, and participating in a sharing of gifts,
25 skills, and friendship with their families, other Special
26 Olympics athletes, and the community; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we commend Chicago Police Amvets Post 18 for its sponsorship
30 of the Special Olympics Conquerors Swim Team and we
31 congratulate the members of the Conquerors on their success

2 further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Chicago Police Amvets Post 18, proud sponsor of
5 the Special Olympics Conquerors Swim Team, with our best
6 wishes.
