1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize Phil Lawler, who has
4 been chosen by USA Today as a member of this year's national
5 All-USA Teacher Team; and
6 WHEREAS, The 18 individuals selected for this year's team
7 were chosen from hundreds of nominees nationwide; and
8 WHEREAS, One teacher was selected from Illinois, Mr. Phil
9 Lawler, a teacher of Physical Education, at Madison Junior
10 High School in Naperville; and
11 WHEREAS, Phil Lawler is an active member of the Illinois
12 Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and
13 Dance; he has promoted the "New PE," a national model
14 emphasizing learning life-long fitness habits, instead of
15 sports skills; and
16 WHEREAS, Madison Junior High is used as a demonstration
17 site for the "New PE"; and
18 WHEREAS, The key feature of the program is tracking the
19 record of each student annually to indicate muscle strength,
20 cardiovascular condition, and cholesterol levels; heart rate
21 monitors are used so every student is challenged at his or
22 her own level; and
23 WHEREAS, Phil Lawler has traveled the country to
24 encourage schools, hospitals, and corporations to adopt the
25 "New PE"; in addition, he is the Director of the PE 4 Life
26 Institute, located at Madison Junior High School; therefore,
27 be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Phil Lawler on being chosen as a member of

1 USA Today's, All-USA Teacher Team and for his leadership to
2 help raise the level of Physical Education, both in Illinois
3 and throughout the nation; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Mr. Phil Lawler with our respect.
