1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize noteworthy
4 achievements in the lives of high school students in the
5 State of Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of
7 the State of Illinois recognize the importance of programs
8 such as the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps in the
9 development of discipline, both scholarly and
10 extracurricularly; and
11 WHEREAS, The Brigade Citywide Cadet Corps JROTC in
12 Chicago chooses approximately 28 cadets each year from over
13 42 schools to serve as the City Brigade Staff; cadets are
14 nominated for the staff by their instructors on the basis of
15 their academic and military grades, their performance as
16 cadets, their display of citizenship and contributions to
17 their school and their JROTC unit; the cadets then compete
18 for the staff positions, first completing a written exam,
19 secondly completing an interview; and
20 WHEREAS, Five cadets from James H. Bowen High School were
21 selected from over 7,000 JROTC cadets in the Chicago Public
22 Schools to serve on the Brigade Citywide Cadet Corps JROTC
23 staff for 2002-2003; and
24 WHEREAS, The cadets selected were Ana Trujillo,
25 Lieutenant Colonel; Crystal Lee, Major; Sofia Velasquez,
26 Command Sergeant Major; David Mendoza, Master Sergeant;
27 Timothy Archer, Sergeant First Class; therefore be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we commend the cadets on their achievements and selection to
31 the City Brigade Staff; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to each of these cadets.
