1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone events in
4 organizations in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the
6 Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Decatur is celebrating
7 the 75th anniversary of its establishment in October 2002;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, Seventy-five years ago, the Greek community of
10 Decatur celebrated the opening of the Annunciation Greek
11 Orthodox Church, the first church of its kind between Chicago
12 and St. Louis; and
13 WHEREAS, Founded in 1927 and serving all of Central
14 Illinois, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church has
15 contributed greatly to the business and cultural enrichment
16 of the Decatur community; and
17 WHEREAS, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church will be
18 celebrating its 75th anniversary from October 4 to October 7,
19 2002 with Greek and American dancing, food, and liturgical
20 services; in addition, a 1927 time capsule, located in the
21 cornerstone of the church, will be opened; therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we congratulate the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in
25 Decatur on the celebration of its 75th anniversary; and be it
26 further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to the Reverend Theodore Vaggalis, Protopresbyter
29 of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, as an expression
30 of our esteem.
