92_HR1042 LRB9217674RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize notable 4 accomplishments in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, The Englewood Back to School Parade was created 6 by its late founder, Willie L. Pittman; this year's parade is 7 the 39th Anniversary of its long standing tradition in 8 Englewood; and 9 WHEREAS, The origin of the Englewood Back to School 10 Parade derived from the Central Englewood Drum and Bugle Core 11 at 65th and Green Street to give the younger members an 12 alternative to the gangs and negative influences within the 13 community; and 14 WHEREAS, The Central Englewood Drum and Bugle Core was 15 renamed "Englewood Back to School Parade" to encourage 16 children to stay in school or return back to school to pursue 17 educational goals; the parade organization developed the 18 theme "Education is the key to the future", that is still 19 utilized to this day because education is the key to the 20 rebirth of the Englewood community; and 21 WHEREAS, The Englewood Back to School Parade is the 22 biggest back to school parade in the Englewood community and 23 the second oldest parade in the African American community; 24 the parade is currently orchestrated by the Englewood Back to 25 School Parade Committee which carries on this great tradition 26 of excellence within the Englewood community; therefore, be 27 it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 30 we congratulate the "Englewood Back to School Parade" on its 31 39th anniversary of dedication and commitment in encouraging -2- LRB9217674RHrh 1 children to stay in school or return to school to pursue 2 their educational goals; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to Justine Mosely-Stephens, the Englewood Back to 5 School Parade Coordinator, as an expression of our esteem.
