92_HR0967 LRB9216937RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Jim E. Taylor 6 is retiring from his position as Superintendent of Schools 7 for Zion Elementary School District #6 on June 30, 2002; and 8 WHEREAS, Jim E. Taylor was born on November 3, 1944 in 9 Marietta, Mississippi, to Prentiss and Eula Taylor; he moved 10 with his parents to Zion in 1951 for a short time and 11 attended Lakeview School before moving back to Mississippi 12 temporarily; the Taylors returned to Zion in 1952, where he 13 attended East Elementary School, Central Elementary School, 14 and Central Jr. High School; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor attended Zion-Benton Township High 16 School, where he still holds the scoring record for rebounds 17 (41) in one game; he also tied the scoring record of most 18 points (42) in one game on February 3, 1962; he was an 19 all-conference player in 1960-61 and 1961-62; after high 20 school, he attended Mississippi State on a full basketball 21 scholarship for two years; he earned his bachelor's degree 22 from Carthage College in 1967 and his master's degree from 23 Roosevelt University in 1973; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was elected to the Park District 25 Board in 1977 and served a six-year term until 1983; he was 26 elected to the City Council, where he served from 1983-1987 27 and from 1994 to the present day; and 28 WHEREAS, Jim Taylor has served 35 years with the Zion 29 Elementary School District #6; he began his career as a 30 physical education teacher at Central Jr. High School from 31 1967-1972; in 1972, he was appointed to the position of Dean -2- LRB9216937RHrh 1 of Boys at Central Jr. High School until 1973 when he was 2 appointed Assistant Principal; in 1976, he was appointed 3 Principal of Lakeview School until it closed in 1977; he was 4 then appointed Principal of Central Jr. High School and 5 served in that capacity until 1997 when he was appointed to 6 fill the position of Superintendent of Schools; and 7 WHEREAS, Jim Taylor was named one of the "Outstanding 8 Young Men of America" in 1976; and 9 WHEREAS, Jim Taylor married Lynette in 1968; they are the 10 proud parents of Tammy, Tonya, Tiffany, and Tara; therefore, 11 be it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 14 we congratulate Jim E. Taylor on his retirement as 15 Superintendent of Schools for Zion Elementary School Disrict 16 #6 and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and 17 be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to Jim E. Taylor was an expression of our esteem.
