92_HR0957 LRB9216960BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Virginia A. Rugai 4 of Chicago on becoming the Mt. Greenwood Civic Association's 5 Woman of the Year for 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Virginia Rugai has been the alderman of 7 Chicago's 19th Ward for over 12 years serving on various 8 committees, including Energy, Environmental Protection, 9 Public Utilities (chairperson), Police and Fire 10 (vice-chairperson), Rules and Ethics, and Human Relations; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, Ms. Rugai, a 12-year survivor of breast cancer, 13 is Past President of the Y-ME National Breast Cancer 14 Organization; she is a member of the Little Company of Mary 15 Hospital Foundation Board, the St. Xavier University 16 President's Advisory Council, Vice President of the Irish 17 Fellowship Club of Chicago, Kiwanis, Brother Rice High School 18 Board of Directors, and the Beverly Art Center; she was 19 appointed to Richard M. Daley's Task Force on Women's Health 20 and the Cook County Women's Commission; and 21 WHEREAS, Ms. Rugai began her career as an English teacher 22 at Queen Peace High School with a bachelor of science from 23 Loyola University; before becoming an Alderman, she served as 24 Assistant to the Director of the Beverly Area Planning 25 Association, was a member of the Illinois Senate Staff, and 26 an Administrative Aid to State Senator Jeremiah Joyce; and 27 WHEREAS, During her 25 years of community service, Ms. 28 Rugai has served as a volunteer member and/or chaired 29 committees on the Far Southwest Mental Health Council, the 30 Beverly Family Center, the Ridge Park Advisory Council, 31 Marist High School Mother's Club, Mt. Carmel Women's Club, 32 St. Ignatius Mother's Club, the Beverly Improvement -2- LRB9216960BHbh 1 Association, and Christ the King's Altar Guild; and 2 WHEREAS, Throughout her outstanding career of public 3 service, Virginia A. Rugai has had the love and support of 4 her family, which includes her husband, attorney Ado L. 5 Rugai, her sons Michael (Sally) and Robert (Brenda), and her 6 daughter, Karen; therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 9 we congratulate Virginia A. Rugai on becoming the Mt. 10 Greenwood Civic Association's 2002 Woman of the Year and wish 11 her all the best in the future; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to Virginia A. Rugai as an expression of our 14 esteem.
