1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Stewart L. Grill of
4 Evanston for being selected by the American Jewish Committee
5 for the Professional Achievement Award, which will be
6 presented on June 6, 2002; and
7 WHEREAS, Steward Grill earned his degree in Light
8 Construction Engineering from Michigan State University in
9 1958, after serving two years in the U.S. Army; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Grill co-founded the 3-H Building
11 Corporation in 1962 and became Chairman in 1969; in 1972,
12 after building 3,500 homes and various office, apartment, and
13 commercial projects, 3-H was acquired by US Home Corporation;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, From 1972 to 1978, Mr. Grill was the Real Estate
16 consultant for the Pritzker Family real estate interests;
17 since 1977, he has been a Consultant for various
18 corporations, accounting, and law firms; Mr. Grill has been
19 involved as a Development Partner in many Chicago-area new
20 and rehab projects including 540 Lake Shore Drive, Three
21 O'Hare Towers, and The Regensteiner Printing Complex; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Grill has been a director/trustee of many
23 real estate organizations including The Hotel Corporation of
24 Israel, Michigan State Construction Alumni Association, and
25 The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago; he is Past
26 President and Life Director of the Residential Construction
27 Employers Council; and
28 WHEREAS, Mr. Grill is active in the community and has
29 served as Director of LaRabida Childrens Hospital, United
30 Jewish Appeal Young Leadership Cabinet, Greater Chicago
31 Israel Bonds Board of Governors, and Joint Distribution

1 Committee National Council and as Board Member of the Jewish
2 Federation of Metropolitan Chicago; and
3 WHEREAS, Stewart Grill and his wife of 45 years,
4 Rochelle, love to travel, are members of Beth Hillel, and
5 raised three children, Sam (Lisa), Josh (Michelle), and Ruth
6 (Tim) Murray; they are the proud grandparents of Ben, Jake,
7 and Max; and
8 WHEREAS, In 1990, Stewart Grill, along with Bruce
9 Bachmann and Stuart Kaplan, formed GBK Equity Lenders to
10 provide financing to Chicago-area Builders and Developers;
11 GBK is now the largest firm of its type in the Chicagoland
12 area; in 1996, Stuart Kaplan passed away and is remembered
13 with great affection; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we congratulate Stewart L. Grill for receiving the
17 Professional Achievement Award from the American Jewish
18 Committee; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Stewart Grill as an expression of our esteem.
