1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the
3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage
4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for
5 the people of the State of Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mr. and Mrs.
7 Robert Gorens, Sr., of Springfield, Illinois, will celebrate
8 the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage on July 13, 2002;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Bobby and Betty Gorens, Sr., have a long and
11 distinguished history of dedication and service to their
12 family, church, and community; for 50 years they have lived
13 and worked in the Springfield community; and
14 WHEREAS, After serving his country in the United States
15 Army, Bobby Gorens, Sr., was employed with the United States
16 Post Office and Illinois Bell for 40 years until his
17 retirement in 1996; during his career he was a baseball star
18 and had the chance to play for the major leagues but could
19 not due to the Jim Crow laws; in addition, he was a member of
20 the ABC Bowling Association, where he bowled in tournaments
21 around the country for 20 years; and he is an active member
22 of the American Legion Post 809; and
23 WHEREAS, Betty Gorens has been a housewife, mother, and
24 grandmother for the past 50 years; she was also a member of
25 the ABC Bowling Association and has bowled in tournaments
26 around the country for 15 years; in addition, she has been
27 known to co-write with her mother Christian plays that have
28 been seen at different churches around the country; she has
29 traveled with the All Nations Tabernacle church choir and is
30 the founder and member of the "Fellowship", a church group
31 dedicated to doing God's work for the past 18 years; she also
32 serves as a counselor to the young people of the Springfield

1 community; Mrs. Gorens is the recipient of the "Special Merit
2 Award", a certificate of achievement for Christian service;
3 and
4 WHEREAS, Bobby and Betty Gorens, Sr., will celebrate
5 their fiftieth wedding anniversary with the reaffirmation of
6 their wedding vows on July 13, 2002, at the Ramada Inn
7 Springfield in the presence of family and friends; and
8 WHEREAS, Bobby and Betty Gorens, Sr., stand as examples
9 of the best of our society, and their love and devotion to
10 each other and to their family and friends serve as a
11 reminder to all that hard work, dedication, and love can make
12 a difference in today's world; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we congratulate Bobby and Betty Gorens, Sr., on the occasion
16 of their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them
17 for achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with
18 children and grandchildren and rich in friendships; and that
19 we wish them happiness and good health in the future; and be
20 it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gorens, Sr., as an
23 expression of our respect and esteem.
