1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to congratulate the North Palos
4 Fire Protection District on their 50th anniversary this year;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, A Fireman's Club was formed in 1947 to protect
7 the northern area of the Palos Township by the North Palos
8 Township Improvement Association; and
9 WHEREAS, On January 9, 1952, an election with an
10 overwhelming outcome voted to form a Fire Protection
11 District; and
12 WHEREAS, The North Palos Township dedicated Fire Station
13 #1 in 1955 on the existing property at 10629 S. Roberts Road,
14 purchased in 1951; and
15 WHEREAS, In 1956, additional neighboring property was
16 annexed into the North Palos Fire Protection District; and
17 WHEREAS, On January 23, 1968, the District established
18 ambulance service; and
19 WHEREAS, In 1974, an addition was added onto Station #1;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, In 1976, the North Palos Fire District became a
22 member of the newly formed First District Fire Chiefs
23 Association; and
24 WHEREAS, On April 1, 1978, the first full-time personnel
25 were hired; and
26 WHEREAS, In October 1992, Fire Station #2 at 8913 W. 95th
27 Street was opened; and
28 WHEREAS, The North Palos Fire Protection District is a
29 member of MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Division 21 and

1 is a Regional Training site for the Illinois Fire Service
2 Institute; and
3 WHEREAS, In 2001, the North Palos Fire Protection
4 District responded to 2792 requests for assistance; and
5 WHEREAS, The two stations are staffed with 11 people per
6 day with 50 combined paid firefighters, paramedics, and part
7 time personnel and an office staff of two; the District had
8 34 volunteers in 1952; the Board of Trustees and Board of
9 Fire Commissioners each consist of 3 members; and
10 WHEREAS, The first Fire Chief was Charles Morgan, who
11 served from 1947 to 1950, followed by Fred Lange from 1950 to
12 1955; Hal Carlson was the Fire Chief from 1955 to 1969
13 followed by John H. Roe, Sr., from 1969 to 1993; the present
14 Fire Chief of the North Palos Fire Protection District is
15 Richard R. McKeon, who has served since 1994; therefore, be
16 it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we congratulate the North Palos Fire District on their 50th
20 anniversary this year; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to Chief Richard R. McKeon and the North Palos Fire
23 Protection District as an expression of our esteem.
