1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Chicago Firefighters Gold Badge Society is
3 unwavering in its dedication to families of fallen
4 firefighters and paramedics; and
5 WHEREAS, This organization aids the families who have
6 lost spouses, parents, and children in the line of duty,
7 whether it be during search and rescue activities, assisting
8 at motor vehicle accidents, transporting patients to
9 hospitals, or responding to numerous emergencies; and
10 WHEREAS, Since the inception of the Society eleven years
11 ago, the mission of the Gold Badge Society has been to offer
12 comfort, support, and services to all that would benefit from
13 knowledge gained through members' personal journeys through
14 grief; and
15 WHEREAS, The Society strives to take care of its own to
16 the best of their ability and answers requests from other
17 communities, near and far, by helping families through the
18 healing process; and
19 WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has lost well over 500
20 firefighters and paramedics in the line of duty, including
21 the 1910 South Side stockyards disaster, in which 21
22 firefighters perished; their families deserve our utmost
23 appreciation and recognition; and
24 WHEREAS, The general public benefits from the sacrifices
25 made by those who dedicated their lives as firefighters and
26 paramedics and share in the responsibility in commemorating
27 their lives; and
28 WHEREAS, Following the September 11, 2001, disaster, the
29 general public has seen the need to commemorate the lives of
30 fallen firefighters and paramedics in the dedication of a
31 monument; and

1 WHEREAS, The Gold Badge Society has planned a lakefront
2 memorial park to honor the Chicago Fire Department members
3 who have died on the job in the city's nearly 170-year
4 history; the society's goal is to plant a tree on park land
5 near Mccormick Place for each one of the deceased; therefore,
6 be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we recognize the efforts of the Chicago Firefighters Gold
10 Badge Society to develop the land south of McCormick Place
11 into a meaningful lasting tribute to our heroes and a place
12 of comfort for the families during the healing process; and
13 be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the Chicago Firefighters Gold Badge Society as
16 an expression of our esteem.
