1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer our sincere congratulations to the
4 DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference on the occasion of
5 their 40th anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, The DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference was
7 established in June 1962 by the communities of Elmhurst, Glen
8 Ellyn, Lombard, Villa Park, and Wheaton to formalize their
9 working relationship in DuPage County; and
10 WHEREAS, By 1969, the Conference was representing the
11 interests of more than 300,000 people living in the region;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, The DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference stands
14 as a model of intergovernmental cooperation; and
15 WHEREAS, The founding members of the Conference
16 envisioned the strength they would have in working jointly to
17 address problems faced by municipalities in DuPage County,
18 thereby accomplishing long-range goals and plans which would
19 benefit all; and
20 WHEREAS, The Conference serves it's members and the
21 region by promoting excellence in municipal government; and
22 WHEREAS, The Conference voices municipal concerns on
23 local, regional, State, and national issues in a variety of
24 forums; and
25 WHEREAS, The Conference evaluates pending State and
26 federal legislation and its impact on municipalities; and
27 WHEREAS, Some examples of early problems that required
28 municipal attention included insufficient and inferior water
29 supplies, waste, water treatment, and transportation
30 management issues; and

1 WHEREAS, The Conference maintains a clear objective to
2 this day, to jointly examine mutual issues of concern and,
3 whenever feasible, to unite to pursue a course of action
4 which will prove beneficial to the citizens of the county;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, The thirty-six municipal members of the DuPage
7 Mayors and Managers Conference represent over one million
8 citizens of the great State of Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, The original mission of the Conference lives on
10 today through the vision and leadership of the elected
11 officials and village managers of DuPage County; therefore,
12 be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we offer our congratulations to the DuPage Mayors and
16 Managers Conference on their 40th anniversary; and be it
17 further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the President of the DuPage Mayors and Managers
20 Conference, the Honorable Thomas Marcucci.
