92_HR0808 LRB9216625RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express our sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Homer M. Caldwell, who passed away 5 on April 3, 2002; and 6 WHEREAS, Homer Caldwell was born on August 6, 1932 in 7 Hyden, Kentucky, to Boyd and Louise Brown Caldwell; he 8 married Dorothy L. Owens on March 9, 1954 and from this union 9 eight children were raised; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell, a veteran of the United States 11 Army, served during the Korean War, and was a lifetime member 12 of the Veteran's of Foreign War; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell retired, after 21-1/2 years of 14 service for Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, Illinois; 15 after retirement, Mr. Caldwell successfully operated several 16 auction businesses; and 17 WHEREAS, In 1987, Mr. Caldwell was elected as Village 18 President of Papineau, Illinois, and provided leadership 19 during a devastating drought in 1988, where he worked 20 countless hours to ensure village residents had safe water; 21 he served until 1991 when he retired to southern Illinois; 22 and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell was of the Baptist faith, finding 24 salvation and acceptance through the Antioch Baptist Church 25 in Golconda; and 26 WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell was an avid fisherman, enjoyed 27 hunting, outdoor activities, playing horseshoes, watching old 28 westerns on television, and spending time with his family; 29 and 30 WHEREAS, The passing of Homer Caldwell will be deeply -2- LRB9216625RHrh 1 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving and 2 devoted wife, Dorothy; his brothers, Frank, William, Tom, and 3 Bo; his sisters, Betty Bennett; his sons Donald Shepherd, 4 Mike, Tommy, Ronnie and Robert; his daughters, Brenda Chayer, 5 Patty Cain and Judy Rechkemmer; his 18 grandchildren; and his 6 13 great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his 7 parents, Boyd and Louise Caldwell, his brothers, Hayes and 8 Mitchell, and his sister, Mary; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Of THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Homer M. 12 Caldwell; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Homer Caldwell with our sincere 15 condolences.
