92_HR0761 LRB9216506BHbh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are 3 proud to honor those people in the State of Illinois who 4 contribute their knowledge and skills to better the physical 5 health and well-being of their fellow citizens; and 6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Warren W. 7 Furey, MD, FACP, of Hinsdale, has recently been recognized 8 with Mastership by the American College of Physicians; he is 9 one of only 36 recipients worldwide to receive this honor; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Furey was born March 21, 1935; he is married 12 to Nancy Schriver Furey, MD, FACP, and has five children, 13 Warren, Tim, Anne, Craig, and Peter; and 14 WHEREAS, Dr. Furey received his B.A. in 1956 from the 15 College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and 16 went on to earn his M.D. at Northwestern University in 17 Chicago in 1960; he was an intern at Wesley Memorial Hospital 18 in Chicago from 1960-1961 and a resident in internal 19 medicine, from 1961-1962 and 1964-1966; Dr. Furey then went 20 on to V.A. Research Hospital in Chicago and was a Chief 21 Resident in Medicine and Infectious Disease from 1966-1967; 22 and 23 WHEREAS, Dr. Furey served with the U.S. Army Medical 24 Corps from 1962-1964 and received an Army Commendation Medal 25 in 1964; and 26 WHEREAS, Dr. Warren Furey has his offices in Chicago at 27 Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, the American College of 28 Physicians, and a private practice; he is a Fellow of the 29 American College of Physicians, a member of Chicago Medical 30 Society, Illinois Medical Society, and the American Medical 31 Association; he is also a member of the Chicago Society of -2- LRB9216506BHbh 1 Internal Medicine, where he was President from 1987-1988; and 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Furey was Joseph Cardinal Bernardin's 3 physician from 1983-1996; he has been a member of Alpha Omega 4 Alpha since 1988; Dr. Warren Furey received the George Joost 5 Award in June, 1997, and was honored for Outstanding Clinical 6 Teaching of Medical Students by the senior class at 7 Northwestern University Medical School; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Warren Furey, together with his wife, Dr. 9 Nancy Furey, initiated, led and infused tremendous vitality 10 and passion to the movement to pass the Bernardin Amendment 11 to guarantee universal access to health care for the people 12 of Illinois; the proposed Amendment was named after Joseph 13 Cardinal Bernardin, Archbishop of Chicago, who wrote and 14 spoke extensively about health care issues before he died of 15 pancreatic cancer in 1995; therefore, be it 16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 17 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 18 we recognize Dr. Warren W. Furey, MD, FACP, for his 19 excellence in the field of medicine and congratulate him on 20 his Mastership from the American College of Physicians; and 21 be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 23 presented to Dr. Warren Furey as an expression of our esteem.
